There are twelve classroom days before the end of the quarter not counting PSAT testing on October 16. Be sure to check PowerSchool to ensure you are taking care of missing assignments. The last day to turn in missing assignments for late credit is October 18.

This Week in AP Physics
It’s time for energy! This major topic will consume us for the rest of this quarter. As usual, we will have some amazingly top-notch lectures, solve some tremendously great problems, and do laboratory work. SO GOOD! A couple of notes: Test corrections for the unit 3 test will be due on Monday, October 14 at 3:00. Also mark your calendars for our physics field trip to Cedar Point on Tuesday, May 19, 2020! You do not have to go, but everyone will do the same amount of work regardless of staying back or going. We will talk more about this in class as the date approaches. Please see me with any questions.

This Week in Physics
On Monday we will complete assignment 1 from unit 2 and will take a quiz over vector addition when announced. Also by the date announced in your class period, please take notes over video 2 from unit 2, which covers vector resolution. We will do assignment 2 over vector resolution and will then complete the problems from learning goals set 1 prior to taking a quiz over both vector addition and vector resolution, as announced. It is possible that notes from video 3 from unit 2 will be due on Friday, so please stay tuned in class for that announcement. Also please note: Mark your calendars for our physics field trip to Cedar Point on Tuesday, May 19, 2020! This Week in AP Physics
We will complete unit 3 with an exploration of Newton’s third law, some tremendously great problems, workbook pages, and a progress check. On Tuesday some workbook pages will be due, so feel free to start early. The pages are 33-34, 40-46, and 53-56. (The remaining pages will either be done in class after we cover the third law or will be skipped because they are horribly, viciously long.) Our unit 3 test will be Wednesday. Next up will be energy! Due on Friday: your formal lab report for the Newton’s Second Law lab. Remember (please, for the love of all that is good in the world) to use the Lab Report Writing Guide and the Lab Report Rubric. Please note the statement in the writing guide: “When writing a lab report for physics, you will type your reports using Google Drive. All partners must write while signed individually into Google Drive, and there must be evidence in the revision history that partners contributed equally.” I will be checking the conclusions for evidence of equal writing/editing effort. Also there will be no rewrites this time. (Besides, I know you’ll do great on the first try anyway, champs!)

Please read for your class period…
Third period: Assignment 4 and goal set 4 are due on Monday. We will go over these in class and will do some extra practice. Your test over unit 1 is Tuesday. For Wednesday please take notes over video 1 from unit 2 by the start of class. We will do assignment 1 from unit 2 by the end of the week.
Eleventh period: We will do assignment 4 and goal set 4 in class on Monday. Your test over unit 1 is most likely going to be on Tuesday but could be switched to Wednesday. Due the day after our test: notes over video 1 from unit 2. We will do assignment 1 from unit 2 by the end of the week.

This Week in AP Physics
Due Monday: pages 30-32 of the unit 2 “workbook.” On Monday we will conduct an experiment on Newton’s Second Law for which you will write a formal lab report ( Lab Report Writing Guide AP Physics and Lab Report Rubric AP Physics.) The next topic will be tension (physics tension, not emotional tension, although perhaps they accompany one another.) Then we’ll slide into friction during the last part of the week. The unit test will be next week (roo doo doo doo doo!)

This Week in Physics
On Monday we will take a quiz over learning goal 3. Also for Monday please take notes on video 4 from unit 1. We will spend the first part of the week working with the kinematic equations and exploring free fall. This will include completing assignment 4 together in class. It is likely we will have the unit test on Friday.

This Week in AP Physics
We will continue to force our way through unit 3 with notes, a lab that will help us distinguish between gravitational and inertial mass, and some tremendously great problems to solve.

This Week in Physics
We will discuss the material from video 3 covering acceleration and will complete some lab activities in class. We’ll also complete assignment 2. If announced, please take notes on video 4 from unit 1. We are accelerating toward our unit 1 test, which most likely will be next week.

This Week in AP Physics
You have arrived at the week of your first real test. Woot! On Monday Phase 2 of your Tremendously Great Problems to Solve, which was handed out on Friday, is due. We will go over this in class on Monday and will then begin our unit 2 lab, Horizontal Ranges Analysis of Upwardly-Launched Projectiles. Due on Tuesday by the start of class is the multiple choice Unit 1 progress check from AP Classroom. (Note that it says unit 1, but it covers what we’ve done in both of our units 1 & 2. We are only doing the multiple choice.) Additionally due on Tuesday is your lab report from our second unit 1 lab, Acceleration due to Gravity. On Wednesday we will take our unit 2 test, and this will be comprehensive, covering both unit 1 and unit 2 material. Thursday brings the start of unit 3 in which we’ll begin to examine dynamics, the study of why things move. Yay!

This Week in Physics
This week we will continue to examine graph interpretation with online activities, unit 1 assignment 1 from the book, and a formal quiz over goal set 2, which will be announced in class ahead of time. (It will not be on Monday.) By the date announced in class, please take notes on video 3 from unit 1.

This Week in AP Physics
We will complete our Acceleration due to Gravity experiment. A formal lab report is due by Friday, September 6. For this report, you will need to refer to the Lab Report Writing Guide and the Lab Report Rubric. This week we will also work through unit two, which covers two-dimensional motion with a focus on projectiles. Expect a unit test next week (the week of September 9.)

This Week in Physics
We will complete our Analysis of Uniform Motion on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. Due on Tuesday are notes from the second video from unit 1.We will go over this video, do some sims in class, and then team up to do practice problems in class from our Unit 1 Assignment Fun! On that day, which will be late in the week, you’ll need to bring your textbook to class.

This Week in AP Physics
We will continue to work with the material you learned during the summer work by completing an experiment on Monday. Please complete the workbook up through page 22 by Tuesday. By the start of class on Wednesday please complete the unit 1 assignment online on AP Classroom. (The join code is in last week’s assignment blog on the home page of our website.) As the week progresses we will complete a second experiment on one-dimensional kinematics (unit 1) and will take the unit 1 “test.”

This Week in Physics
For Monday please take notes on the first lecture video (Video 1: Introduction to Displacement and Velocity) from the unit 1 web page. We will go over these notes in class in an abbreviated way, focusing on extending and answering questions rather than re-doing the entire lecture. In other words, if you don’t take the notes from the video by the start of class Monday, you will be lost and confused, but if you do take them, you will get your questions answered and will have opportunities to deepen your understanding. Pro tip: Do not try to take notes on all of the unit 1 videos. We’re only covering the first video this week. As the week progresses we will tackle some practice problems and will begin our first experiment.

We take Monday off to honor the sacrifices of our servicewomen and men on Memorial Day. Something you may not know about the day is that a national moment of silence is customary at 3:00 p.m. on Memorial Day. This could give you a reason to take a short break from studying for exams!

This Week in AP Physics
We will complete our pinewood derby engineering project. The race against the Boy Scouts will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the main gym. Bring friends who may have old pinewood derby cars lying around! Your reports, technical drawings, and final versions of your cars are due on Thursday. Then you are DONE! Congratulations, and thank you for a WONDERFUL year!

1st period from 8:00 a.m. – 9:20 a.m.
