Week of February 3, 2020

This Week in AP Physics
We will continue to work through thermal processes and the first law of thermodynamics with lecture, tremendously great problems, homework 3, and a lab. Following that we will begin to explore the remaining laws of thermodynamics with a special application to the function of engines. This will take us into next week when we will also take the unit test. Note: Your lab report on the behavior of gasses experiment is due at the start of class on Tuesday.

This Week in Physics
On Monday we will tie up loose ends in our energy unit and will test on Tuesday. By Wednesday please take notes from video one from unit 5. We will begin to move through this unit on momentum with assignment 1, goal set 1, and a quiz, and we will do a mini-lab on collisions as the week progresses.

Week of January 27, 2020

This Week in AP Physics
We will continue to explore thermal physics by looking at methods of energy transfer, the kinetic theory of an ideal gas, and (just barely by the very end of the week) the laws of thermodynamics. Expect some tremendously great problems and a couple of nights of homework problems. Labs (and most likely the unit test) will be the week of February 3. That’s lit!

This Week in Physics
We will finish assignment 3 from unit 4 and do a short experiment on the law of conservation of mechanical energy followed by a quiz over unit 4 goal set 3. When assigned please take notes on video 4 from unit 4. We will do assignment 4 and will then take the unit 4 test, most likely by the end of the week. Yay! Links to all relevant materials may be found on our unit 4 webpage.

Week of January 20, 2020

This is a shortened week as we take Monday to observe and appreciate the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This week also marks the start of third quarter and second semester. Halfway, peeps!

This Week in AP Physics
On Tuesday and Wednesday we will complete our work on fluid flow and will take the unit 8 test on Thursday. Then from the cold of the early week we will heat things up alongside the weather forecast as we begin unit 9 on thermal physics. Caliente!

This Week in Physics
We will complete the formal lab report for the work-energy theorem experiment. As you write be sure to use the lab report writing guide and the lab report rubric to guide your work. Your reports are due printed (one per writing team) at the START of class on Wednesday. We will spend class time on Tuesday writing. Additionally, 11th period opted to take the
goal set 2 quiz on Tuesday, so please be prepared to take that at the start of class if you’re in 11th period. During the remainder of the week we will explore concepts and problems related to video 3 from unit 4 and will complete assignment 3 followed by goal set 3 and, time permitting, a quiz over goal set 3. Expect the unit test the week of January 27.

Week of January 13, 2020

This is the last week of second quarter. Any missing work is due no later than Tuesday, January 14 (unless you were absent for multiple days this past week.)

This Week in AP Physics
We will continue to swim through unit 8 on fluid mechanics. The first book assignment for unit 8 is due on Monday. The second one will be due on Tuesday, but you should wait to start it until we’ve finished taking notes on Monday. We will complete two labs this week, one on mass density and the other on buoyancy. By the end of the week we will explore fluid flow. Expect the unit 8 test by the middle of the week of January 20.

This Week in Physics
All resources for this week are available on our unit 4 webpage. This week we will perform an experiment on the work-energy theorem. We will complete assignment 2 and take a quiz over goal set 2. By the date announced in class please take notes on video 3.
